Where are our youth heading?

My mind feels restless all the time. I dream big and imagine a meaningful life, but I struggle to make those dreams real. I wonder if visualization or manifestation could help me move forward. I see others doing so much, achieving things, and I ask myself—why can’t I do the same? There’s a strong voice inside me that wants to become something great, but I’m not satisfied with where I am now.

Sometimes I think I might need psychological help or even psychiatric medicine to deal with this constant restlessness. I enjoy listening to self-help teachers like Osho, Sadhguru, Alan Watts, Ram Dass, and others. Their words give me a temporary lift, but after a while, I fall back into the same cycle.

I keep slipping into habits that drain me—doomscrolling, substance use, overthinking, porn, binge-eating, gossiping, and being overly critical. I want to change, but I feel stuck. Even with all the knowledge I’ve gathered, I’m still more or less the same. I’m looking for something that truly helps me break this pattern and feel at peace. These are the numerous issues that a present day youths are facing. Let’s understand the cause of this problem.

Understanding the Problem: The Restless Mind

Your restless mind is like a wild horse that has been running in circles for so long, it has forgotten how to stand still. The very nature of mind is movement – thoughts, desires, dreams, comparisons. But when this movement becomes compulsive rather than conscious, it creates suffering.

The core issue isn’t your big dreams or lack of achievement – it’s the fundamental disconnection between who you truly are and who you think you should be. Your mind has become addicted to “becoming” rather than “being.”

The Root Cause: The Achievement Trap

This pattern developed through years of conditioning that taught you:

  • Your worth depends on external achievements
  • Happiness lies in the future (“when I become successful…”)
  • You are inadequate as you are right now
  • Comparison with others determines your value

The teachings you’ve consumed became just another form of consumption – seeking the next high, the next insight, the next technique to “fix” yourself. But you cannot think your way out of a thinking problem.

How It Manifested

Your nervous system learned to seek stimulation constantly:

  • Dreams became escape mechanisms rather than inspired action
  • Teaching became entertainment rather than transformation
  • Practices became performance rather than presence

The destructive behaviors (doomscrolling, substances, porn, binge-eating) are not the problem – they are symptoms. They are your psyche’s attempt to fill an inner void and quiet the mental chatter temporarily.

The Correction Path: From Seeking to Being

Stop the External Seeking (30 days Challenge)

  • Stop watching or reading self-help content for now.
  • No more gurus, videos, or spiritual books.
  • This gives your own inner voice space to grow.
  • Spend quiet time with yourself. At first, it may feel boring. But the more you sit with yourself, the more you understand your thoughts and patterns.
  • Don’t chase quick fixes. It’s okay to fail or make mistakes—this is how real growth happens.
  • Try to meditate and feel grateful every day, or as often as you can. It helps you feel calm and accept yourself as you are.
  • Taking small, regular actions is more powerful than just thinking big.
  • Thinking is easy—it costs nothing. But action takes effort and helps you break old habits.
